講義概要 This course will explore various aspects of Japanese Labor and Employment Law, including the following subjects.
(1) Historic development and current statutory framework
(2) Hiring and termination of workers
(3) Wages, working hours, and leaves
(4) Workers' compensation
(5) Transfers and disciplinary measures
(6) Non-regular workers
(7) Labor unions, collective bargaining, and strikes
(8) Dispute resolution

到達目標 To understand basic rules and precedents of labor and employment law in Japan, with due consideration to unique characteristics of Japanese employment practices. Participants are expected to discuss them from a comparative point of view.

参考書・参考資料 Additional materials will be supplied.
成績評価方法 Evaluation will be based on attendance, participation in the discussion, and presentation at the class (70%), and on the final report (30%). .
